Getting in

How do I get access?

Create an account, confirm your email address, and start a 7-day free trial. A payment method is required to begin and nothing is charged during the trial; after it, the subscription is $20 a year plus tax, one tier, everything included. You can cancel any time before the trial ends from your Account page.

What is not included in the free trial?

Two things: Print / Export — printing a character sheet or saving one as a PDF — and Go Mythic, the mythic paths, tiers and path abilities. Everything else is included from the first day: the builder, the full rules database, saved characters that follow you between devices, and your own homebrew content. Subscribing unlocks both straight away.

I have an access code. Where do I put it?

On your Account page, under Access code — or on the page you land on when you first sign in. A code gives you the full product straight away with no payment method at all: no card, no trial, and both Print / Export and Go Mythic included. A one-year code gives twelve months and extends any access you already have; a lifetime code has no expiry. There is nothing to cancel either way, because a code does not create a subscription.

Who takes the payment?

Paddle, as our authorised reseller and merchant of record. They run the checkout, they are the seller on your receipt, and they collect and remit any sales tax or VAT — which is added on top of the $20 and shown before you pay. Card details are entered on Paddle’s own checkout; HeroStack never sees or stores them. To change the card on file, use Manage billing on your Account page — to cancel, use the Cancel subscription button on the same page.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It runs in a browser, on a laptop or a phone, and your characters live on the server rather than on one device — so the sheet you built at a desk is the sheet you open at the table.

What’s in it

Which rules does it cover?

The d20 fantasy roleplaying rules released as Open Game Content — the core ruleset plus the long tail: classes and their archetypes, feats, spells, gear and magic items, bloodlines, domains, mysteries, hexes, eidolon evolutions, and the mythic rules. Seventy-nine content categories in all.

The licensing document lists every source work by name in its Section 15 notices, which is the precise inventory of what is included.

Where does the rules text come from?

From published Open Game Content compilations, carried across with each entry’s Section 15 copyright notice intact. It is the licensed text rather than a paraphrase — so what you read here is what the rule actually says.

Are you affiliated with the publisher of the game?

No. HeroStack is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or approved by any game publisher, and claims no compatibility with any trademarked game system. The rules data it carries is Open Game Content, used under the Open Game License v1.0a — the full text, the declarations and the attributions are in the licensing document.

Something I need isn’t in the database.

Say what’s missing at support@hero-stack.com and it can usually be added. In the meantime you can build it yourself — see the next answer.

Can I add my own homebrew?

Yes. Classes, archetypes, feats, traits, items, domains, companions and more have builders behind them, and anything you make there behaves like built-in content: it appears in the pickers, and its bonuses feed the same calculations. You are not writing notes in a margin — you are adding rules the app then applies.

Subscription and billing

How do I cancel?

One click, from your Account page — there is a Cancel subscription button on it. No email, no phone call, and you never have to give a reason.

Cancelling stops the next renewal. It does not end your access today: you keep it until the end of the year you have already paid for, and the page tells you that date. Cancel during the free trial and nothing is ever charged at all — you keep the rest of the 7 days.

Your characters stay where they are either way. Losing access means you cannot open the app; it does not mean anything is deleted. Subscribe again later and everything is where you left it.

Will you warn me before you charge me?

Yes — three times, and to everyone, wherever you live. Three days before your free trial converts, once about half-way through your subscription year, and again 40 days before each renewal. Each one names the date, the price, and how to cancel.

That schedule is set to the strictest notice rule we could find rather than the one that happens to apply where you are — New York asks for 15 to 45 days, France for one to three months, and the UK will soon want two reminders a year. Forty days clears all of them at once.

They are transactional notices, not marketing, so there is nothing to unsubscribe from — they stop when the subscription does. If one does not turn up, please tell us: that is a fault, and we would want to know.

Do you give refunds?

No. All fees are non-refundable, and the 7-day free trial is what we offer in place of a refund. You get a full week of the working app before any money moves, which is when the decision about whether to pay is meant to be made — letting the trial convert is how you choose to buy. Once a year has started the fee is earned and is not refunded; cancelling stops the next renewal rather than returning the current term.

The other half of that: we do not cut your access short either. Cancel and you keep it to the end of the period you paid for.

There is one exception, and it is not about you: if we ever choose to close HeroStack down, we refund the unused part of what you paid. Cancelling is your decision and is not refunded; shutting the service off would be ours, and that is different.

If you were charged in error — after cancelling, twice over, or on an account that never had access — that is not a refund question and we will put it right. Write to support@hero-stack.com.

This is our own policy, not our payment processor’s. What it cannot do is cut across your statutory rights, which vary by where you live and take precedence over anything stated here; where one of those applies, Paddle handles it as merchant of record. The full position is in Terms of Service — including what happens if the service ends for reasons outside our control, where no refund is owed.

Using it

A number on my sheet looks wrong.

Check the breakdown first. Armor Class and your attack lines show every contribution by name and bonus type, including what was left out of Touch AC and why — which often turns “that’s wrong” into “that’s the stacking rule”.

If it still looks wrong, write to support@hero-stack.com with the character name, the value, and what you expected. That is enough to reproduce it; without it, usually nothing is.

Why can’t I see the Eidolon / Familiar / Animal Companion / Mount tab?

Those four appear only for a character whose class actually grants that companion. If the tab is missing, the build does not have one yet — take the class, archetype or feat that grants it and the tab appears.

Can I use a light theme?

Yes — PC › Settings › Theme, and it changes as you pick. The choice is remembered in your browser.

Your characters and your account

Do I have to remember to save?

No. Press “Save As New” once to store a new character, and after that it autosaves in the background as you work — the character bar shows when it last saved. “Save As Copy” branches a variant off if you want to try a build without losing the original.

Can I export a character to a file?

Yes — Print / Export lays the character out as a printable sheet and prints it. Choose “Save as PDF” as the destination in your browser’s print dialog and you get a PDF instead of paper; the text stays real text, so it is searchable and selectable rather than a picture of a sheet. Tick the sections you want first — the page only offers the ones this character actually has, and remembers your choice for next time. Print / Export is not part of the 7-day free trial; it comes with a subscription.

Can I delete a character, or my whole account?

A character, yes — from the Load list. Account deletion is a manual request for now; the Terms of Service set out what deleting does, and what outlasts it (backups until they cycle, and anything already published), in plain terms rather than legal ambition.

How do I change my password, or sign out everywhere?

Both are on the Account page, along with a list of your active sessions. If you are locked out instead, use “Forgot password?” on the sign-in form.
