Create an account, confirm your email address, and start a 7-day free trial. A payment method is required to begin and nothing is charged during the trial; after it, the subscription is $20 a year plus tax, one tier, everything included. You can cancel any time before the trial ends from your Account page.

One thing: Print / Export — printing a character sheet or saving one as a PDF. Everything else is included from the first day: the builder, the full rules database, mythic paths and tiers, saved characters that follow you between devices, and your own homebrew content. Subscribing unlocks Print / Export straight away.

On your Account page, under Access code — or on the page you land on when you first sign in. A code gives you the full product straight away with no payment method at all: no card, no trial, and Print / Export included as well. A one-year code gives twelve months and extends any access you already have; a lifetime code has no expiry. There is nothing to cancel either way, because a code does not create a subscription.

Our authorised payment provider, acting as merchant of record. They run the checkout, they are the seller named on your receipt, and they collect and remit any sales tax or VAT — which is added on top of the $20 and shown before you pay. Card details are entered on their own checkout; HeroStack never sees or stores them. To change the card on file, use Manage billing on your Account page — to cancel, use the Cancel subscription button on the same page.

No. It runs in a browser, on a laptop or a phone, and your characters live on the server rather than on one device — so the sheet you built at a desk is the sheet you open at the table.

Yes. Classes, archetypes, feats, traits, items, domains, companions and more have builders behind them, and anything you make there behaves like built-in content: it appears in the pickers, and its bonuses feed the same calculations. You are not writing notes in a margin — you are adding rules the app then applies.

One click, from your Account page — there is a Cancel subscription button on it. No email, no phone call, and you never have to give a reason.

Cancelling stops the next renewal. It does not end your access today: you keep it until the end of the year you have already paid for, and the page tells you that date. Cancel during the free trial and nothing is ever charged at all — you keep the rest of the 7 days.

Cancelling is not the same as asking for a refund. If you are still inside the 7 days after your first payment, cancelling on its own stops the next charge but does not hand back the last one — email support@hero-stack.com and ask, and you get the whole thing back. Section 9 of the Terms of Service has the detail.

Your characters stay where they are either way. Losing access means you cannot open the app; it does not mean anything is deleted. Subscribe again later and everything is where you left it.

Yes — three times, and to everyone, wherever you live. Three days before your free trial converts, once about half-way through your subscription year, and again 40 days before each renewal. Each one names the date, the price, and how to cancel.

That schedule is set to the strictest notice rule we could find rather than the one that happens to apply where you are — New York asks for 15 to 45 days, France for one to three months, and the UK will soon want two reminders a year. Forty days clears all of them at once.

They are transactional notices, not marketing, so there is nothing to unsubscribe from — they stop when the subscription does. If one does not turn up, please tell us: that is a fault, and we would want to know.

Click it. Every total on Combat & Stats opens its own breakdown, listing each contribution by name and bonus type — including what was left out of Touch AC and why, which often turns “that’s wrong” into “that’s the stacking rule”.

They say whether HeroStack does the arithmetic for a feat or only remembers that you have it. Auto means it is already in your numbers — take Weapon Focus and your attack line moves by itself. Reference only means the feat is recorded on your sheet and printed on your character sheet, but it changes no number here: it is yours to run at the table.

Most feats are reference only — around one in forty is auto — and that is the honest answer rather than a gap being worked through. The great majority of feats in the game are not modifiers at all. They are triggered abilities and new actions: permission to attempt a maneuver you otherwise could not, a rider on a critical hit, an option once per day. There is no number for the app to add up, so there is nothing it could apply.

Both states are labelled, so a feat with no marker means the app has not identified it rather than that it does nothing. The same marker appears in the picker before you spend the slot, so you can see which kind you are choosing while you are choosing it.

Where a trait carries a bonus, yes — and traits carry the same auto / reference-only marker feats do, on the Traits card. They fare much better than feats, too, because a trait usually is a small modifier: roughly four in ten are auto, against about one in forty of the feats. A skill bonus, a bonus on a save, initiative, a class skill, a combat maneuver — those are already counted in the totals on Skills and Combat & Stats, and you do not add them yourself.

The rest are the same kind of thing as a reference-only feat — a once-per-day reroll, a story permission, something that applies in one situation the app cannot know you are in — and they sit on your sheet to be read and used at the table.

A trait marked auto is named where it counts. Click Fortitude after taking a trait that grants +2 to it and the trait itself is the line you see — every contribution is listed under the name of the thing that granted it.

Those four appear only for a character whose class actually grants that companion. If the tab is missing, the build does not have one yet — take the class, archetype or feat that grants it and the tab appears.

No, and there is nothing to press to begin with: a character is stored to your account the moment you press Finish in the creation wizard, and after that it autosaves in the background as you work — the character bar shows when it last saved. “Save As Copy” branches a variant off if you want to try a build without losing the original, and “Save As New” is there for a sheet that has never been stored — one you started before signing in, say.

Yes — Print / Export lays the character out as a printable sheet and prints it. Choose “Save as PDF” as the destination in your browser’s print dialog and you get a PDF instead of paper; the text stays real text, so it is searchable and selectable rather than a picture of a sheet. Tick the sections you want first — the page only offers the ones this character actually has, and remembers your choice for next time. Print / Export is not part of the 7-day free trial; it comes with a subscription.

Both are on the Account page, under Security. Changing your password there leaves your other devices signed in; Sign out everywhere is the separate button that ends every session on the account, this one included. If you are locked out instead, use “Forgot password?” on the sign-in form.
